The Story Behind Mindful Movement Education

Our philosophy, our founder & the studio experience that shaped every part of the curriculum.

our story

Mindful Movement Education is the white-label teacher training arm of Mindful Movement Centre, a Toronto Pilates studio built over nearly two decades. Here's how it started, and the founder who built it.

Leslie Parker is the founder of the Mindful Movement universe, which includes Mindful Movement Centre, her flagship Pilates studio in Toronto. Years later, she founded the Mindful Movement Pilates Teacher Training program. Now, through Mindful Movement Education, she's bringing that same premium Pilates education she's taught for 12 years in her own studio to studio owners everywhere.

When I opened Mindful Movement Centre in 2008, I wasn't thinking about teacher training. I simply wanted to create the kind of Pilates studio I wished existed: a place where people felt genuinely cared for, where movement was thoughtful rather than intimidating, and where education was valued just as highly as exercise.

Why I Opened Mindful Movement Centre

in her own words

Over the years, our community grew, and so did the demand for Pilates. Like many studio owners, I found myself searching for exceptional teachers to join our team and quickly realized that finding instructors who truly embodied what I was looking for was much harder than I expected.

Around the same time, teachers who had recently completed certification programs started reaching out to me for mentorship. They were passionate and dedicated, yet many shared the same concern: despite completing their training, they didn't feel fully prepared for the realities of teaching in a studio. As I worked with them, I began to understand why, and it explained why I'd been having such a difficult time hiring, too.

The TeacherS I Couldn't Find

THE challenge

Rather than continuing to search for teachers who already had those qualities, we decided to build a teacher training program that intentionally developed them: one that went beyond teaching exercises and focused on developing thoughtful, adaptable, confident teachers who understood both the science and the art of teaching movement.

Building What Was Missing

That realization changed everything.

OUR STUDIO

Over the years, our program has evolved through hundreds of trainees, thousands of teaching hours, and continual research, mentoring, and real-world refinement. Today, our graduates teach throughout Canada and internationally, with the confidence to teach real people: people with injuries, chronic pain, and individual goals and learning styles.

That's when I realized there was another way I could help. What if studio owners didn't have to choose between spending years building a curriculum from scratch, or settling for a program that didn't reflect their values? What if they could begin with a proven educational foundation while still creating something that felt entirely their own?

How Mindful Movement Education Was Born

That's how our white-label teacher training partnership was born. We've already done the years of curriculum development and refinement. We provide the educational framework, resources, mentorship, and support, while you shape the program around your own philosophy, your own community, your own studio.

Our philosphy

We believe exceptional Pilates teachers are developed through thoughtful education, meaningful practice, and mentorship, not by memorizing exercises or following scripts.

A great teacher training should build confidence alongside competence. It should help future instructors understand why they're making decisions, adapt to the person in front of them, and continue learning long after they graduate.

Every curriculum we create is grounded in movement science, informed by real-world teaching experience, and designed to prepare instructors for the realities of today's Pilates studios. We believe education should be rigorous without being intimidating, supportive without lowering standards, and flexible enough to reflect the unique philosophy of every studio we partner with.

"I didn't set out to build a teacher training company. But no matter how much I searched, I couldn't find teachers with the qualities I wanted, so I decided to train them myself. And so Mindful Movement Education was born."
